The Journey of a Child with Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema

Products:  L-Mesitran Soft
Case study performed by: The boy’s parents, with their GP (Dronten, The Netherlands)

A 6-year-old boy suffered from severe atopic dermatitis (eczema), diagnosed when he was only six weeks old. For years, the affected skin was treated twice daily with various creams and corticosteroid therapies. As he grew older, he also developed multiple allergies, hay fever, pneumonia, and asthma. Several treatments were prescribed over the years, including corticosteroid ointments and other dermatological creams, but without satisfactory improvement.

Method: The boy eventually started using L-Mesitran Soft, chosen for its easy absorption and reduced greasy residue compared with previous treatments. The gel was applied L-Mesitran Soft was applied thinly to affected areas, particularly when scratching caused skin damage or signs of infection.

Results: Within four weeks, the skin showed substantial improvement:

  • Skin irritation decreased significantly
  • Small wounds healed
  • Itching was greatly reduced

By Day 33, visible eczema lesions had largely resolved, and the patient’s skin condition had improved considerably.

Discussion: Atopic dermatitis is often complicated by repeated scratching and secondary skin infections. Many patients require long-term corticosteroid therapy, which may not always provide sufficient control of symptoms. In this case, L-Mesitran Soft was well tolerated and provided noticeable improvements in skin condition, comfort, and quality of life.

Conclusion: L-Mesitran Soft proved to be an effective option for supporting eczema-prone skin in this child. After years of daily treatments and recurring symptoms, the patient’s skin showed marked improvement within just over four weeks, with reduced itching, healthier skin, and improved comfort.
