Healing Infant Wrist Burns with Honey

Products: L-Mesitran Ointment
Case study performed by: E. Smaropoulos, MD PhD

An 8-month old male infant suffered a second-degree (partial thickness) burn trauma on his left hand by exposure to boiling coffee. Treatment with medical-grade honey (MGH) monotherapy was initiated immediately upon presentation.

Method: The infant’s wound was treated with daily applications of medical-grade honey (MGH) as the sole treatment method, closely monitored for changes.

Results: The treatment began showing signs of improvement within four days. By day 7, the wound was epithelialized, indicating that the skin surface had begun to heal properly. By day 12, complete functional restoration was observed, and the honey application proved to be easy to apply, pain-free, and effective for the baby’s sensitive skin.

Discussion: Burn injuries in infants are a critical area of pediatric care due to the risk of serious complications. The use of MGH in this case highlights its advantages in treating burns due to its broad antimicrobial properties, ability to facilitate rapid healing, and regeneration of new tissue without the adverse effects associated with conventional burn treatments.

Conclusion: This case study underlines the effectiveness of L-Mesitran Ointment in treating pediatric burns, offering a safe, natural, and efficient alternative to traditional burn care methods. The successful recovery of the infant showcases the potential of MGH for broader applications in burn treatment and other wound care scenarios.
